Best casino hotels in Manitoba

Two crown-run casinos in Winnipeg, both themed, both built for locals rather than for visiting weekend traffic.

The gambling landscape in Manitoba

Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries operates the province's two urban casinos directly: Club Regent in the northeast of Winnipeg and McPhillips Station in the northwest. Neither has an attached hotel tower, which puts Manitoba in a different category from Ontario or BC.

What Manitoba offers instead is character. Club Regent is built around a large aquarium and a tropical atrium; McPhillips Station carries a railway-era theme through the whole building. Both include event centres that pull touring acts through Winnipeg year-round.

Minimum gambling age is 18. Visitors generally stay downtown and drive out, which is a fifteen to twenty minute trip in either direction.

Practical tips for Manitoba

  • No casino hotel towers in Manitoba — plan a downtown hotel and a short drive rather than an on-site stay.
  • Both casinos run event centres. A concert night is the best reason to time a visit.
  • Winnipeg winters are genuinely severe. December through February visits need a warm-up plan between car and door.
